About the GrumpyQueen

A.K.A Gatekeeper

I love food, don't deprive me of it.

I'm not Princess, I'm Queen

I can be quite grumpy and when I am, I hide here, my dungeon for reflections, ramblings and ranting.

Whatever I write are opinions, and may not be the whole truth. Do not read it like the Gospel.

I hate as vehemently as I love
I already know I'm crazy, be my friend, it's safer

Different is not bad, just not the same as the rest

If you don't like me, it's probably mutual
But I'm nice, really :p

I learnt a new card game

I wrote about my cockroach killing experience yesterday but forgot to write about my new card game. I don't even know what it's called.

To start, each player has to put some money in the centre of the table. Everyone will put the same amount, for us, we put 20 cents each.

Then dealer gives each player 2 cards, facing up.

For example, I got a King and Ace. That's the best la, 'cos I'd have the most chances. So I'll make a bid. If the pool has $2, I can bid any amount, maximum $2.

Then I'd draw a card. If my card is between the King and Ace range, I get to take the amount of money I bid for from the pool.

BUT, if the card I bid for is either Ace or King, I've got to pay double the amount I bid for.

Ace and King is just an example. For example my cards are five and ten. Then any card outside the range of five and ten, I've to pay the amount I bid for to the pool. If I get five or ten for my third card then I'd have to pay DOUBLE my bid to the pool.

Oh yea, and if you need to pay or take money, you've to do it immediately before the next one can bid. If you happen to get the whole pool, the game ends there and everyone contributes 20 cents again. After everyone has had their turn to bid, the cards will be collected and re-distributed and we'd go through the whole bidding thing again. No need to collect 20 cents again, the 20 cents it's only collected when there's no money in the pool. Fun right?

Hahahaha I lost the first day I played but recoup-ed my losses the next day! Yay!

My theory is this...

1) Even if you have almost "sure win" cards like Ace and King also can lose so don't be too greedy as to bid on the whole pool if it's a lot of money in the pool. People call it GAMBLING for a good reason! Don't laugh k, happened to me! Got such good chances also kena pay double. Was telling my mum I'm just gonna bid on half of the pool and she was like "ALL LA!" In the end kena pay double! Hahaha lucky she pay, not me. :p
Moral of the story? Don't be greedy, trust your gut feeling.

2) Yea, always trust your gut! If you've got this bad feeling but yet got good cards, don't act smart and bid for the whole pool. My gut feeling saved me quite a bit yesterday and I'm beginning to love it.

3) Always be kind. Kindness begets kindness. Look around, if someone has pretty good chances and it's ur turn to bid, you can either forgo the chance to bid or make a bid but leave some money in the pool for the ones after you. Remember, you don't always have to bid and when you bid, you don't have to take ALL the money in the pool.

4) Don't curse other people. I know it's tempting to wish they're gonna get a card that'll cause them to pay double to the pool so you'll have more money but DON'T DO IT! IT'LL COME BACK TO YOU!

5) Don't envy other people if they've got the guts to risk it. These are the stupid people who're gonna "contribute" to the pool. If you've got a weak heart like me, just bid small small. Bid small, kena double also no heartache.

6) Never mind if people laugh at u for being a scaredy cat or for being kind to people. They're just jealous of you! :p

Oh yea, spotted a song off Xue's blog. Eres Tu. Was a choir piece, probably one of those I can still remember. Another would probably be Sanctus. And I never knew that Sanctus was part of the Mass until like 4 years ago? I deserve to be slapped.

Xue put the original Eres Tu, if I'm not wrong it's in spanish. I went and found the English version, the one we're more familiar with. Here it is, enjoy!
